Why You Should Build Your Own List As An Affiliate
Affiliate marketing is a popular way to start internet marketing. You can get yourself up and running relatively quickly. You do not need your own product, you just pick one from thousands of thousands available. You do not even need your own website, you can use blog sites, Squidoo, article directories or paid advertising. Even though you can successfully run an affiliate marketing campaign without a website, I would highly recommend that you use one. Here is why.
If you market an affiliate product without a website, you have no residual benefits. With your own website, you can create a marketing system that you can tap into again and again. Let me explain.
If you do not have a website, you must somehow recruit prospects and get them to go to the product main sales page where you hope your prospect will be converted into a buying customer. Whether you use a blog, or Squidoo or paid advertising, you have no mechanism available to capture the contact information of your prospect. Why is that bad?
If you can not build a list of your prospects, a subscriber database, then for every affiliate program you get involved in you will have to start at ground zero. You will have find a way to reach prospects and get them to the sales page.
Picture this, you have to run a marathon against another person. You start out equal. The next day you have to race again, only this time your opponent gets to run 5 miles shorter than you. You will have to work as hard as you did yesterday to finish the race but your opponent has it easier. The next day you run again, only this time your opponent has to run a distance 10 miles shorter than you. This lasts day after day and each day your opponent has to run a shorter and shorter distance to get to the finish line while you have to run the same full distance every day. Who has the easier time getting to the finish line.
This illustrates the difference between having a list for your affiliate marketing and not having one. Yes you guessed it, you are the one without the list in this example while your opponent is building his list. Each day his list gets bigger and each day he has a shorter and shorter distance to get to his goal.
If you have a subscriber database, instead of starting over for every affiliate program, you can start by offering the affiliate item to your subscribers first. If you have taken care of your subscribers correctly, you will generate sales right off the bat, without any additional marketing. Do you see how far ahead you are when you have a list?
You can greatly accelerate your affiliate sales by building a list. The better and bigger your list the closer you will be to the finish line right from the start.
