Social Media Marketing Plan – Does Your Business Have One?
Do you have a social media marketing plan for your business? Every business should start with a marketing plan and build off this plan. I will discuss the top three bullet points every social media marketing plan should have. To begin, your plan should start with your end result in mind. What is your purpose, your targeted end result to ensure your business is a success and on the right path? Your plan should be a GPS of sorts that guides you to meet your goals and gives direction to your business.
Next, know who in your organization is going to manage the social media marketing plan. Establish who is responsible to execute the plan. Will it be one person, a team, will it be outsourced? This decision is critical in the forward planning. Whether you outsource the duties or go in house, the key is consistency. The same person or team should execute the plan so your customers know what to expect. If there is turnover in your organization, the plan should be process mapped and documented for anyone to takeover the management of the plan.
Finally, decide which social media platforms you are going to utilize. Does your marketing plan include creating and maintaining several platforms or focus on the larger more well known platforms? Keep in mind, the four big platforms – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn – bring you close to one billion people to market to. If you decide to utilize many platforms, you will want to keep all the log-ins for each platform in Google docs or dropbox. This way, anyone in your organization has access to all the accounts. Bottom line, decide the scope of your plan – does your plan focus on going wide or deep? This is a critical first step for your business.
In summary, when you create your marketing plan, know you will start with the end result in mind, next decide who in your organization will execute the plan and finally decide the scope of your plan. Are you going wide with many platforms or deep with a focus on the larger platforms? Whatever you decide, stick to the marketing plan and monitor and track your progress. Modifications to your plan should be made monthly and quarterly. Begin today and create your social media marketing plan and get your business on the fast track to becoming a viral marketing machine!
