Respect in Relationship – 7 Great Tips to Gain Respect in Your Relationship
Respect in relationship means we value the whole being of one another, understand and accept differences and willing to change for the betterment of one and to the relationship as a whole. Respect at some point also means never underestimating the capability and limitations of each one. If loving a person without any respect to him or her at all is useless, worthless, pointless and doubtful. Love and respect go hand in hand as one cannot exist without the other. Can you ever love someone but don’t give any due respect?
In a long term relationship, the feelings grow deeper as we see the personality of each one during the best and worse times. We will know each other’s secret that no one else knows and we know those dirty little secrets and faults. Knowing the flaws is not the reason to leave the relationship behind, but it is more of a test to us as to how respect in relationship can be applied in between the differences as partners. On the other hand, when we get to know our partners well enough, the danger zone here is disrespect. Earning the respect of our partners and vice versa is really essential as respect always comes with love.
1. Talk and act naturally as what your partner really believed in you and your personality. Your partners love you more when they see you behaving and acting exactly the same as before. What he or she sees in you at home and acting it out outside home is an indication that you have been true to your partner. As such, it allows for the respect to arise.
2. Respect begets respect
The first thing you can do is to gain respect from yourself before respecting others. The initiative of respect should only come from you and not to somebody. You cannot expect your partner to respect you when you are not worthy to be respected as a person. Think of your acts.
3. Do the best for the relationship even if it is difficult for the both of you.
It doesn’t mean here that the partner alone will put an effort to maintain the relationship that both of you have established. It just only means that even when the relationship gets tough, try your best to save it as much as your partner is willing to do it as well. Do not allow your partner to think of you as slowly fading out in the relationship. Respect will slowly fade as well once it will happen.
4. Be interesting.
Being interesting to your partner doesn’t mean you have to look good by putting heavy make-up. It means that what you were to him or her before, you should be the same even now. When you were smart and witty, give him or her same interest that you have not changed.
5. Be independent and honest.
Being independent means you know how to decide for your own and can be able to find ways and means to live on. Most partners respect those who can stand with their decisions. Honesty is also a big factor in earning one’s respect. Sharing to your partner your thoughts, opinions, grudges and fears only imply that you have been true to him thereby earning his respect.
6. Love yourself.
Never allow yourself to be emotionally attached and dependent to your partner or else you can never have his or her respect. Learn to appreciate yourself, love what you do and be happy always.
This is one of the most effective ways in communication that allows thoughts to gather. It is not all the time that you talk over an argument, it is also best to listen to your partner, his or her views and opinions so that the process of communication is followed and at the same time your partner appreciates you for respecting him or her through listening.
Respect in relationship can be applied to a friend, parents, children and business. We can actually find respect anywhere in the world but it can only be felt by persons who have been respectful and are worthy of respect. On the contrary, in connection with relationship, respect is one of the major points why there exists such a lasting relationship. It is not simply good as saying, “I respect you”, but it is more apparent when being acted upon. It is true that respect in every relationship is not learned overnight, it is learned throughout the process of knowing and learning how to maintain the relationship. Respect gives you time to grow and to love more than yourself.
