Popular Internet Marketing Trends of 2009
Internet marketing can be confusing enough to try to follow with all of the hype, product launches and other distractions that come with the industry. But over the past decade, I have noticed trends that occur from year to year that signal changes in the Internet marketing community and the way Internet marketers are approaching the ever existing problem of aggressively generating new customers.
In this article I want to share with you some of the trends I have seen so far this year, and trends that I think will continue on through the year.
Yup, they’re still around. You may not see as many because they are not as new as they used to be, but you will still probably get announcements for the next big product. Choose wisely and don’t let them distract you from your main goals and your current projects.
Many marketers are preaching the benefits of recurring income and as a result there has been a rise in continuity programs and variations such as microcontinuity (as Russell Brunson Calls it) or fixed term continuity as (Jimmy D. Brown calls it.) These programs all promote recurring income.
The most controversial of all are “Forced continuity” programs where the customers is often not aware that they are enrolling in a month to month program. Be careful with these because you can end up with some unhappy customers.
Local Business Promotion
Many Internet marketers are talking about the benefits of applying Internet marketing strategies to local businesses. There are millions of small businesses that need marketing help if you have some basic Internet Marketing skills. This has proven to be a great market for many web marketers.
Personal coaching programs have become much more popular as many entrepreneurs find themselves stuck and would rather have someone talk them through solving their problem.
This personalized one on one help can help business owners get the answers to all of their questions and helps them take the right action to quickly reach their business goals. You could pay for the ebook, but many prefer to spend a little more to have personalized assistance.
High Ticket Items, Elite Groups, Limited Offers and Barriers to Entry
You may have noticed that marketers are having more limited entry type of offers to avoid saturating the market with their material and to ensure that those who purchase can minimize competition. This really sucks if you are going to have the money after the deadline. After the deadline, many of the products are taken off of the market for good! I think this is being done both to reduce market saturation of the product and to increase the sales of the product by making it “scarce”
More Use of Video
As video better Internet connections have become more available, there has been a wider use of video, and many of the well-known Internet Marketers are taking advantage of this. You will probably see more video type sales letter because they deliver a level of credibility and intimacy that print has lacked on the Internet.
Better Content and More Free Content
You have probably been seeing more free content on the Internet related to Internet marketing, probably in the form of videos. Many of the professionals are giving away tons of valuable content which allows them to build more value for their backend products.
More Use of Social Network and Social Networking Tools
Its hard not to notice that more Internet Marketing professionals are using more social networks and the tools associated with them. The tools focus on automation to help manage social networks and integration of the networks to help aggregate content. Social networks are basically just a new method of building relationships within communities much like the role forums have served in the past.
I think affiliate marketing is only going to get bigger. I have worked for two large infomercial companies that market on the Internet, and affilitate marketing accounted for more than 75% of their sales!
As many flocked to the Internet to find work at home jobs and business opportunities, tons of people are going to stumble upon affiliate marketing as one of the more legitimate ways to make money on the Internet. In addition, many are understanding the role of CPA marketing companies and how to use them to make serious money from their web sites.
I think one of the most valuable lessons I get from watching these trends deal with the many ways these marketing tactics can be applied outside of the Internet marketing arena in other niche markets. Its easy to fall to the appeal to promoting Internet marketing products, by watching the pro’s do it during their heavy promotions.
You can learn a ton of quality information from the products Internet Marketing Professionals sell, but you also need to remember that you can learn a ton of invaluable lessons just by watching what they do as well!
