Making Money On The Internet – For The Uninitiated
The internet is a river of money.
These are the words of somebody who unapologetically and unashamedly refers to himself as an “internet millionaire”. In other words, this individual openly admits that he has made his millions on the internet. And he would have the rest of us believe that there is still more than enough for the rest of us to swim in.
A river of money – is this really so?
If all the hype is to be believed then there are hundreds of thousands, probably millions of people already raking in millions over the internet. These individuals are working from home with nothing more than a computer and access to the internet at their disposal. They have no staff, no infrastructure and very little or no overhead expenses at all. But they are making millions of dollars, we are told.
But how does one make money on the internet?
Apparently there are quite a number of ways. One of the popular ways of doing it is called “affiliate marketing”. In simple terms it means that one promotes a product on the internet and gets paid commission should there be a sale that can be traced back to your promotion of the product. The commissions that are paid out can be as high as 75% of the price of the product.
Does one need a website to be an affiliate marketer?
Yes and no. No, you do not really require a website to promote other people’s products on the internet but a website or two will stand you in good stead. A professionally constructed website can be used to generate traffic to your site which in turn could increase your sales, exponentially. Depending on the amount of “seed capital” you are willing to invest in your marketing endeavour you could get educated on how to maximise your money making efforts.
Where does one start?
There are many websites offering a lot of information on all the terms and jargon – a few of them even offer education and training – some free and others not so free. Personally, I find the amount of information quite overwhelming and a slow learner like me could take weeks perhaps months to gain an understanding of how this business works. Other smarter mortals are able to get a much quicker grasp on everything and we are told that there those who have started to make money on their first day.
If you are serious of first gaining some understanding before jumping in, I would suggest that you start by typing some phrases like internet marketing, affiliate marketing and “making money on the internet” into a search engine like Google.
In this way, instead of just “jumping in”, you take a more “educated leap.”
