Make Money From Blogging – Is it Possible?
Well? CAN you make money from blogging? Rob Benwell certainly thinks you can. He says he’s been earning from blogging for the last 4 years, and has made a fortune doing so.
In 2006 he put all his ideas together and published an eBook called “Blogging to the Bank”. It proved very popular – making, as the cynical side of me says, even more money for Rob. That eBook has been updated a couple of times to keep up with changes in technology. It’s now up to version 3.0.
Having fallen on hard times myself, as have many in this financial crisis, I stumbled on Rob’s ebook, put my hand in my pocket to the tune of $37.00 (23.11 UK pounds at today’s exchange rate) and read through it. Silently betting that, knowing my luck, I’d probably missed the boat, I decided to have a go at this blogging to the bank business. So, after downloading the package I settled down to read “Blogging to the Bank” version 3.0
First impression was that it was written very clearly and in an easy-to-follow manner. Then again I’ve worked with computers for over 30 years so I very much hope that I would be able to follow it.
At least Rob doesn’t make any claims that this is an easy “get-rich-quick” scheme. He explains that a certain amount of time effort and even some money will have to be put into building a blog that earns money. All the software quoted is primarily PC-based, but as a long-term Mac user I’m used to that. There have been changes and updates to the software, and the way it works, even since the version 3.0 update.
Now we come to implementing this system. It flowed nicely, until I came to the optimisation pages. That advises an auto-responder. Now I have I web host that I get on well with and which doesn’t cost much money, so I used that rather than the one Rob recommended. They have an auto-responder system, but it doesn’t collect subscriber’s email addresses. The technical support at my web hosting company suggested a free piece of software that could be easily installed. I went for that, rather than pay for the auto-responder software Rob recommended. And it took quite some time and effort to get this software (phplist) to work with the blog.
I fixed it, but needed to do some delving into the code to tailor things. I couldn’t honestly advise that unless you know exactly what you’re doing. But having done that the site is up and working.
Is it making money? Well, not much, yet, but hardly anyone knows it’s there, which is the vital element in making money from a blog.
More recently Rob is advertising a “free blog” worth, he says, $497. Quite how he gets that figure I don’t know because all the posts and information are available with his “Blogging to the Bank” version 3.0. But it does include a simpler script for setting up your first blog.
So – is the “Blogging to the Bank” system worth getting? Well, the jury is still out on the money-making aspect, but otherwise it gives you clear instructions and lots of free stuff to get you started on a blog with the chance of making money from it.
