List Building – How to Use Google AdWords to Build a List
If you're willing to invest some money into building a list considering using Google AdWords. It's faster than free traffic methods because your ads are very targeted and will immediately appear on the first page of Google. If you tried to get first page rankings for your squeeze page using search engine optimization it would take several weeks or months depending on the competitiveness of your keywords. Google AdWords enables you to get instant traffic.
Let's look at how to use Google AdWords to build your list
1. Keyword research
Use the free Google keyword tool (Google it!) To generate a list of 100 keywords. Check the "exact" box under match types to find the exact keywords people are entering in the Google search box to find information. The keyword tool will provide a list of keywords related to the seed word or phrase you entered. On the right side of the results it will show you the number of global and monthly searches for each keyword. The keyword tool can also display the estimated average cost per click. This gives you an idea how much advertisers are paying for that keyword every time someone clicks on it.
2. Create your ads
Create 2 ads so you can split test them against each other. Google does this for you automatically if you check the setting "rotate ads evenly." Try to use your keyword in the ad headline, ad copy and URL. Keywords automatically get bolded. Begin with 10 related keywords to place in your ad group using broad match. The idea behind this is to quickly see which keywords generate the most clicks then remove the keywords receiving little or no traffic. Once you've got a good click through switch to exact match. It will save you money because your ads will only get displayed when a person uses the exact keyword phrase in their searches (unlike broad match which shows keywords for any sentence containing your keywords).

Set your daily budget and how much you're willing to pay for each click. For example start with $ 25.00 per day at $ 1 per click to test the waters. To determine which keywords get the best click through rate (CTR) wait until you receive at least 100 clicks to your ads.
5. Track your ads
View the CTR of each keyword to see which one gets the most traffic. Use Google Analytics to insert tracking code on your squeeze page. The statistics generated will tell you how many visitors your page received, how long they stayed there and what keywords they used to find your squeeze page.
6. Monitor your campaign
Log in to your Google ad words campaign every day in the beginning so you can control your spending and make adjustments to your ads or keywords if necessary. It's easy to become discouraged when you spend a lot of money and do not see good results. Be prepared to lose money in the beginning because it will take a little time to master the process.
Always test 2 ads at the same time. Your best one is the control ad then continuously try to improve on this ad by creating a new one. This will help reduce your ad costs and increase profitability.
If you follow this 7 step process you'll build a targeted list of subscribers very quickly. Even though you may be spending a lot of money upfront on your campaign keep in mind the lifetime value you receive from each customer on your list.
