Is It Easy to Make Money From a Blog?
This is for the aspiring blogger who wants to make a decent living out of his / her blog. Before you start anything consider the following points:
1.) I presume you have a topic in mind for your blog. This is usually something that you are passionate about. That's a good start because it means that you will not get bored writing posts for your blog! In fact, it will not even feel like work! However, if you want to make money from your website you have to think very carefully about this topic. The bottom line is this: Are there enough products that you can recommend related to your topic?
Lets say your interested in deep sea exploration. You are fascinated by high tech million dollar submarines and their ability to dive to depths of over 1000m. You set up a blog with loads of fascinating articles about submarine adventures, deep sea creatures etc. Now you want to make some cash from your site through affiliate marketing. You cant find any products relating to deep sea exploration so you throw on a few advertisements for washing machines and stationary. I do not think I need to tell you where this ones heading! How much money will you make? Zilch probably.
If on the other hand you decide to make your blog about online dating then there's an array of products you can promote with some very healthy commissions! If you make a great site and are able to drive enough traffic to it then you WILL make money promoting dating sites.
Of course it does not have to be dating. There are thousands of affiliate programmes for each type of mainstream product category. All you have to do is make sure your topic matches the products you promote! Simple!
2.) Traffic is the key! You might have a great looking site with loads of well written content but that means nothing if you do not have traffic. You need to learn about the various ways you can drive traffic to your site. This can be through article submissions, SEO, forums etc etc. Have a look at my resource box for a link to the top 3 experts in this field.
3.) Your website / blog should LOOK IMPRESSIVE. There are so many cheap and nasty looking blogs around. If your website or blog looks shabby people will judge it to be of little use to them and leave fairly rapidly. On the other hand, if it looks very professional or particularly interesting / different you will grab the attention of the surfer and subconsciously they will decide that it's a high quality site.
