Internet Marketing – Why You Should Be Focusing On An Audience Instead Of Money
As an Internet Marketer, you may have been seduced by the idea of making tens of thousands of dollars a month posting a few videos, writing a few blog posts, or sending out a few emails or tweets. When you actually do it, you find out that it’s not as easy as you thought. Wanna know why? Because you’re focusing on the money!
That’s right! Focusing on money is the reason why you lack money. Wanna know why? Because you may be doing things out of desperation to make money. You may be creating garbage content just to rank on the first page of the search engines to bring a high volume of traffic back to your site. You may be sending spammy emails to your mailing list, that’s getting them to unsubscribe at an alarming rate. You may even be sending tweets of product promotions that are getting you blocked! Let go of the idea of making money and watch the money pile up.
“How is not focusing on money going to make me money?”
Here’s a scenario:
Let’s say you have a blog. All you want to do is provide free blog posts of you sharing your experiences and ideas. You get your readers on a mailing list where you send them weekly updates of your latest blog posts. Afer 2 years, you’ve accumulated 50,000 email subscribers. You have a product you want to promote to your email subscribers. About 1% of your list buys this product at $100. So what that means is you just made $50,000 off of your email list. Not bad, right? You also have ads on your blog site and you average about $100 a day off of ad revenue. You are able to make at least $3,000 a month without even selling a product. Whenever you promote affiliate products, you notice that you are making an average of at least $20,000 a month. This is all because you have built an audience that loves your content and tunes in to your content on a regular basis.
So how do you get to the point where you are making money without worrying about making money?
Focus on building an audience or users! Google has a lot of free resources you can use, but it happens to be a multi-billion dollar company. Being that there are so many people who use their products, they attract a lot of people who would like to advertise on their search network.
If you are watching TV with an antenna, you’ll notice that you’re able to watch TV for free, right? Well, those TV networks that provide the TV shows get people to pay top dollar for 30-90 second ad slots.
Depending on the type of show that’s playing at that specific time will determine the amount of money you’ll be paying to have your commercial air.
The TV shows themselves get paid by the TV networks that allow them to play their show at those specific time slots.
All this because you have a certain amount of people doing nothing but tuning into a show for a specific amount of time at specific times of the day on a specific channel.
Your audience is important because you can make money with ads or you can make money by having your audience purchase a product. So if you focus on providing valuable content for your audience, you’ll be able to make a lot of money.
“How long will this take?”
No one really knows how long it will take you to make money. Instead of focusing on how long it will take to make money, focus on trying to attract as many people who may enjoy your content. This is when you need to target your audience.
The more targeted your audience is, the more likely you’ll make the money you want to make. So if you have an audience who loves specific types of information or entertainment, you’ll increase your chances of getting higher conversions the more targeted that audience is.
Imagine if you had 1,000 people on a list who want to learn how to lose weight. Some people on your list may want to burn fat. Some people on your list may want to build muscle. Another portion of that list may want to get some of the best workouts for the best results.
The more people you can please on that list, the more money you’ll be able to make. So if you’re able to create content that touches all of these points, you’ll have a higher amount of people viewing your content. When you sell a product that helps burn fat and build muscle using the best workouts and getting the best results, you’ll notice more and more people are buying your products.
Never promote a product just to make money. Your audience comes first. If your product offers are the best offers your audience has ever got their hands on, you’ll have them asking you for more products.
People don’t mind spending money, as long as the products they’re buying give them what they want or exceed their expectations. If you can habitually exceed the expectations of your audience, your audience can actually turn into a cult-like following.
That may sound negative, but some of your favorite movie franchises like Star Wars or Marvel movies have a cult-like following of people who even dress up like the characters. If you can do this on a smaller scale, you’ll be at a point where the money you make is almost a guarantee.
