Well, you can thank my friend Travis Sago for this phenomena. Everybody and their grandmother is doing article marketing these days. Think I’m kidding? Take a look at the hundreds of thousands of articles at this directory alone, assuming you’re reading this at Ezine Articles. Yes, article marketing is huge. Problem is, a lot of marketers don’t really understand how to go about this process correctly. It’s not just about pumping out content. It’s about writing in a way where your readers don’t go away shaking their heads wondering what it was they just read. To that end, this article should help a lot.
For starters, I don’t care how good a writer you are. If your article title doesn’t captivate the reader, they’re not going to read whatever it is you have to say. It could be a miracle cure for cancer but if your title is something like “Article About Cancer” you’re going to put your reader to sleep. If you’ve got a miracle cure for cancer, say it in the title. “Miracle Cancer Cure On The Horizon.” That’s going to get your reader to actually read your article. The title, in my opinion, is 80% of the battle in getting your article read.
Once you’ve got the reader past the title, the rest is simply a matter of delivering on your promise. A misleading title is really going to tick off your reader if you don’t follow up with the goods. So make sure that the content of the article and the title jive, or your credibility as a writer is going to be hurt dramatically. So make sure when your reader walks away from your article, they walk away with a feeling that they got something out of it.
But what about the marketing part? After all, you’re not writing these articles just for your health. You’re hoping that when the person reads them, they’ll want more information on the subject. Well, that’s where your resource box comes in. Too many article writers make the mistake of having resource boxes that read like biographies. Nobody cares about who you are. They care about what you can do for THEM. This is a “what’s in it for me” world. Don’t ever forget it.
