Internet Marketing Tips – Nothing New Under The Sun
There is an interesting discussion going on over at the Warrior Forum. Paul Myers has asked members if there is anything new under the sun when it comes to Internet marketing as opposed to what has gone on in the offline world. Some folks came up with a few things that were quickly shot down. Reading this thread got me to thinking. If there is nothing really new, is it really necessary for you to reinvent the wheel in order to become a successful Internet marketer?
Well, the first thing we need to establish is if the assumption is true. Is there nothing new under the sun? That’s going to be a matter of opinion I’m sure. I think trying to state anything as fact is dangerous because one person’s fact is another person’s opinion. I’ve seen way too many arguments over what is truly original and what is just another cheap knock off.
And yet, there are some companies out there who have really gone above and beyond in terms of profit. Google comes to mind. They’re not only a search engine but they’re the biggest search engine. They’re the ones that people say to go to when they want to look something up. The expression “Google it” may be one of the most incredible expressions that truly shows how powerful the word itself is. People don’t say “look it up at a search engine” or even, more specifically, “look it up at Google” but they actually use the company name as a verb. How often do you see that?
So, what makes Google so great? Well, besides being a search engine, they’re also an advertising avenue for marketers in the form of their AdWords program. They also give site owners a chance to earn money through their AdSense program. They also have tools that you can use to track your ads such as Google Analytics. The number of products and services that Google has is mind boggling. They have truly brought the word “new” to an art form.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to be the next Google to be successful. There are marketers out there who do very well with much less. But the higher you strive for excellence, the better your results will be in the long run.
Nothing new under the sun? Maybe, but Google sure has done something right.
