Integration Marketing For List Building – A Real World Example
I truly believe that integration marketing is a tool that home based internet marketing businesses can tap into for list building to explode their profits…I know because I have done it over and over again. However, the concept behind integration marketing can be vague for some people so I’m going to tell you a story…a true story…about a real world example of just how powerful integration marketing can be.
There was a young guy…years ago…who wanted to start a software company. He was doing pretty well, make some smart moves. One day he made a potential deal with someone to buy his software package. Notice it was a potential deal…it wasn’t in the bag yet.
His next move was to talk to a company that sells computers. He figured that if he could tap into that related market it could be a really, really sweet deal for him.
So he talked to them…he said, “Look, I want you to include this software on every computer you manufacture…I get to sell the upgrades to the software…I get the software rights…”
Now conventional wisdom back then was that the money was in the hardware, so the computer manufacturers said sure. They probably thought he was nuts for basically giving his software away because they thought he would never see anything out of it.
Maybe you already figured this out, but the young man in the story was Bill Gates and the computer company he approached was IBM.
That is an example of integration marketing at its finest! That was the thing that took Microsoft from being this tiny, unknown company to the biggest giant in the industry. It took Bill Gates from obscurity to being the richest man in the world!
Do you see how this is integration marketing? He offered a license of his software, which people paid a small fee for as part of buying their computer. He got to keep the names of the software customers. (Hello? That’s called list building.) So now every time there is an upgrade in the software he can promote that to his list and every time someone takes him up on that he keeps 100% of the money. And believe me, there have been lots of upgrades during this time!
Think about this-the list that he built? He didn’t have to go out and advertise his software to get those names…he didn’t have to do anything…he got them automatically because of the integration marketing process he set up with IBM!
Let this story sink in a little bit and think about how you can apply the principles of integration marketing to your home based internet marketing businesses. What is the related product that would be a great fit for you…what is the “computer hardware” to match to your “software”? Follow up on that and you can be list building and profiting from integration marketing for years to come. Who knows…maybe you’ll be the next Bill Gates!
