Ideas to Write About on Your Blog
If you're like me, I'm sure there are times when you just sit in front of your keyboard and wonder 'What the heck am I going to write about today ?! "
Often we do that because we are looking for that one inspirational idea. Well, do not wait for inspiration: that's one of the fatal causes of writer's block (and empty blogs!)
If you have a product or business blog then you'll have lots of ideas on what to write about if you take time out and think … product reviews, new products or services, case studies, how to use your product or services and so on.
If you write a personal blog then you sometimes get stuck for ideas.
WordPress runs a challenge each year to help you post more regularly – weekly, monthly or daily. They even have badges so you can commit your intent publicly and be accountable to others for posting on schedule. It certainly helps to encourage people to post more often and I'd recommend starting with the monthly posting then, if you manage that regularly, do the weekly posting, then if you do that post more than once per week.
Much better to start with a less stressful scheduling pattern and then build up rather than set yourself up for failure by promising you'll post daily and then not being able to do so. Take the pressure off! Start slower until you develop the habit. On their site they have some cool ideas and advice. If you search through their blog posts, you'll find a LOT of ideas to write about, like "describe what your laugh sounds like".
What I love about these ideas is that they require no preparation and some do test your thinking!
So, either use the prompts provided by challenges such as the one by WordPress. Or, take a half day out and really think about your blog and it's purpose. Then think about your readers. What questions may they be asking? What might they be thinking about your topics? What issues do they have? What practical solutions can you provide your readership? What reviews can you offer?
Once you've thought about that, here's a really big tip for you to take the pressure off completely …
- write out 12 posts NOW
You do not have to post them now. But you could schedule them so they feed out once a month 🙂
Then you've succeeded in keeping your content fresh, having original articles of interest to your readers and satisfied the bots that crawl your site to rank its value. Yes, it's cheating because you did not write them on that actual day … but you did write them and as far as readers know, you posted on that day.
Having done that, you can then sit down once a month and write three more articles. Then schedule those to post over the month. Voila – you're now being seen to post weekly.
Batch processing is much better. When you sit down to write you often get in the zone and can pump out more than one blog post. So write them and schedule them – job done.
If you get an inspiration one day or something very relevant and topical jumps up that you want to post about – feel free. That will just add to your blog content and value.
OK, champ, so when is your blog post and how often will you post?
