How to Make Money Online – 7 Tips to Build a Successful Opt In Page That Converts
In this installment of my how to make money online article series, we are going to discuss the components of a successful opt in page. The opt in page is a critical component to any successful online business, especially in affiliate marketing. The opt in list give you, the web site owner, a captive audience of eager subscribers that want to hear what you have to say. You can communicate literally any message you want, such as product offers and site communications and can be confident that your message will be heard. With that said, let’s look at what makes up a successful opt in page that will create high conversions from site visitors to subscribers.
1.) Do you have a compelling headline?
2.) Do you have a clear offer?
3.) Do you have a clear call to action?
4.) Do you have the subscription form displayed prominently?
5.) Do you have a privacy notice and email notice?
6.) Do you have opt-in bait, such as a bonus or time sensitive offer?
7.) Do you have good rules of formatting for your website?
Now, let’s look at each of these components in a little more detail. First, do you have a compelling headline? Remember, you only have a few seconds to grab the site visitor’s attention. Your headline should be directly in their field of vision with a compelling message. Second, do you have a clear offer? The site visitors need to know what kind of benefit they are going to receive by opting in to your list. Bullet points here are very effective here. Third, do you have a clear call to action? As silly as it sounds, sometimes you have to specifically tell the site visitors exactly what you want them to do.
For example, something as simple as “enter your name and email in the link below”. Fourth, do you have the subscription form displayed prominently? This is a key point. Don’t hide your subscription form in your website and expect visitors to scroll down or click through other pages to find it. Your subscription form must be front and center so the site visitor has no option not to look at it. Fifth, do you have a privacy notice and email notice? In this day and age, everyone is very concerned about privacy and identity theft. Make sure you have a clear email policy that outlines your stance against spam and not selling or giving away your subscriber’s information.
Sixth, do you have opt-in bait, such as a bonus or time sensitive offer? If you expect site visitors to give you their personal information, then you must give them something in return such as a free report, e-book, etc. You can write this information yourself, hire someone to write it for you using services such as Elance.com or buy some Private Label Rights (PLR) documents with rights to distribute. Last, do you have good rules of formatting for your website? You need to make sure that your website is simple and very appealing to your site visitors. Simple opt in pages convert much better than ones with fancy graphics or flash animation so keep it simple.
