Building Trust Vs How To Trust
As of today, about 90,500 searches are taking place through Google on the phrase 'how to trust'. This comes as a little bit ironic to me. It seems to me that a lot of people are trying to figure out 'how to trust' people who are not trustworthy at all! I will elaborate more on that in a bit – first, lets make sure we are on the same page …
Whether a personal relationship or a business relationship, trust is an absolute necessity! You may have already married your spouse – if so, would you have married him / her if you did not have trust? Of course not. Lets imagine for second, you are walking around in the city, a guy pulls up to you in a car as says: "Get in, I can give you a ride!" Your first thought should be 'no' (I hope). If your brother or sister pulled up in a car and said the same thing – you would not hesitate for a second! Why? Trust!
Trust takes time to build. Sometimes quicker than others. It depends on the severity of the topic trust being being built upon. (For example; love, business, friendship, banker, etc …) But in both scenarios above, you entered your brothers car because you both have shared so much time with one another. Time is key. You never stayed up until midnight every other day with him working on 'building trust'. "OK Mike, we are going to have our nightly trust-building talks". No. That does not happen. It comes naturally.
Now that we are on the same page – as I said before, people are searching for "how to trust" over 90,000 times per month – while only 'building trust' receives a mere 27,100 hits. You see, either you have trust in someone – or you do not. Their actions are allowing trust or distrust. You should not have to learn how to trust someone who is untrustworthy. Instead – those are the type of people are who you should be avoiding. Clear them from your life and move on. Find friends that are actually worth while!
Start focusing on how you can build trust. Good, caring, honest, old-fashioned trust! It really is not that hard. This is what I do. (If you know me personally, you know that I am a very blunt person.)) Here are the 4 most important things to believe, as far as I'm concerned .
1) Keep your Promises! If you say you are going to do something, DO IT! Failing to do what you say you are going to do is the easiest way to break trust!
2) Never lie! This is another deal-breaker! Honesty always works best! If they are a true friend, that will understand the predicament that you are in.
3) Listen to someone when they are talking. You have your days when you just want someone to listen to what you have to say, right? It allows you to 'release' your thoughts or feelings and you are happy that they listened to you when you are done. Same things apply in the reverse manner. Be a good listener!
4) Try to put a smile on someones face. It shows that you care. And you should!
Follow those steps, and you should be on your way to becoming a trust-building maniac – which is key to great personal development!
