Affiliate Marketing – Building an Opt-in List
One of the best ways to sell affiliate products or services over the Internet is by building an opt-in list. An opt-in list is a list of people who have given you permission to email them by supplying you with their names and email addresses. How do you get people to do this? By offering them something free in return. What you offer them is up to you, but it should be something that seems valuable enough to them to make them want to give you their information.
First of all, you need to have a website that contains an opt-in form, and you need to drive traffic to that website. Most people use opt-in forms supplied by auto-responder email programs. Through the auto-responder email program you can set up an opt-in form on your website so that every person who enters their information receives a pre-written automatic email response from you. Usually the first response they receive will be an email asking them to confirm their subscription, then another email containing a link to your free offer.
Affiliate marketers can use opt-in lists for selling other people’s products. As an affiliate marketer you can attract people to your opt-in website by offering a free report that provides information about the niche that your affiliate products are based on. You could also have people opt in to receive updates on your information blog through their email. One thing that you do not want to do, however, is make every email that you send them a sales pitch. Most of what you mail to your opt-in list should be helpful free information that they can use. Build their trust and your credibility, and when you do send an email recommending an affiliate product for them to buy, you are more likely to get sales.
Building an opt-in list takes time, some hard work, and sometimes money to invest in marketing. It can often be difficult for affiliate marketers to justify the time and expense of building an opt-in list because it doesn’t bring an immediate return on their investment. This is one area, however, where you must look at the long term benefits. When you build and nurture an opt-in list, you have established traffic from which you can profit on a regular basis.
