Affiliate Marketing and the Pre-Sell Page
The very first mistake I made as an affiliate marketer was to create a sales page for the product I was affiliated with. In other words, I expected customers to read through my rather amateurish attempt at a flashy sales letter before clicking through to the product sales page where they were met by an equally flashy but highly professional (and successful) sales letter.
I think it took me over a week to shape and hone that page, matching text phrases, fonts, and colors to the original product sales letter. But just when I was about to upload the page, the voice of Internet Marketing Reason told me I was doing it wrong. I wasn’t supposed to sell the product, I was supposed to pre-sell the product! My only job as an affiliate was to get customers to click through to the product sales page.
Like most beginner marketers, my eagerness to jump into the fray of affiliate marketing had led me to:
A) Work much harder than necessary.
B) Approach something based on the wrong information.
Everything you need to get started in affiliate marketing can be found for free (or at very little cost). One of the first things you need to accept is that there are people who actually want to help you reach your goals. They want to help you make money online. And they’re willing to teach you how to do that. Yes, there are scammers out there, too. But once you learn how to do the right things in the right order, you’ll be able to spot the scam artists a mile away. Do yourself a favor and find an internet marketer you trust, use that marketer’s techniques to create an affiliate page with content that pre-sells, and then work to drive traffic to your page. Affiliate marketing is easier than you realize if you just take the time to listen and learn.
