Acquiring Well Converting Email Lists
Like many forms of Internet advertising, including banner and pop-up advertising, email advertising has declined substantially in its response rates. However, email marketing can still be quite effective if you use it correctly, and that means writing quality content and having a strong email list.
As you probably already known, an email list is simply a catalog of email addresses that you send your marketing messages to. There are many ways to acquire an email list, but some methods are more effective than others. Many people resort to purchasing a bulk email list from a company, but there are many downsides to this route. First, the list that you get has also been sold to a multitude of other people, so the individuals on that email list have already received tons of emails. This leads to the list being of a fairly low quality, and your response rate will be extremely low, and possibly even nonexistent. Second, these lists cost a lot of money, so if you do not get any benefit, then you are just wasting money.
The best thing to do is compile a list of your own customers. This means you have to use other marketing techniques to get customers in the first place, or convince them to sign up for your email listserv, and then you can hit them with email marketing messages. The response rate for these will be much higher, as people will already be somewhat familiar with your specific company. While this route takes more work, it is much more effective, and that is what business is all about.
