101 Marketing Strategies – How to Keep Energy in Your Marketing and Drive Your Small Business
One of the very first and primary lessons in 101 marketing strategies is to be excited! It does not matter how difficult things may be, you must always be excited and energized. You do not have to lie; you just need to make sure your energy is high.
Marketing is a form of translating energy and emotion from your business to your prospects. People will say yes to you based as much on your beliefs and your conviction as on your knowledge, sometimes even more – we've all seen that happen. Be aware that everyone you talk to about your business feet what you are feeling, and if it does not match the words coming out of your mouth, they will know it, so, in essence, you must sell yourself fist.
How can you keep your energy high, so that whenever you are working on your marketing, conveying your message and talking with prospects or clients that feel your excitement? You need to stay focused on your passion and your dream. One of the largest obstacles to staying excited and optimistic for many small business owners and entrepreneurs is feeling overwhelmed. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, like there is too much to do and not enough time or like what you are doing is not working, you need a way to get yourself back on track.
One of the best ways to do that is to plan. If you are a natural planner, then this will be easy for you, but for the rest of us who do not have that as a 'natural' part of our personal makeup, we have to work at it. There are many specialists, motivational speakers, business leaders etc who have programs you can use to keep things straight, organize your tasks and plan your days. That's great, but what about the bigger plan? If you plan your days just based on what you need to do tomorrow, you will not move forward in an effective way, growing and building your business.
You need to start with something like a 5 or, possibly even better, a 10 year plan. It is a really challenging thing to do for most people, so you may find it easier to get a few fellow entrepreneurs or small business owners together to work on this so you have some accountability. Think about where you would like your life and your business to be, in an ideal world, in 10 years. Take the time to write out specifics about what your day will be like, what your office and your home life will be like. How many employees do you have, how much does your company gross each year, what are your big contributions to the world, to your clients and to your employees. Dream big, but also make sure to make it true to what you really want – you may be tempted to write about a big fancy office space, and then as you write, you may come to realize that what you really want is to work from home, your beautiful home by the beach and look out over the ocean as you work. Do not worry about everything being 'correct', just get it started, you'll want to review it regularly and tweak it as you grow and change.
Once you have the framework down for the 10 year plan you can start to figure out what some of the projects might be that you need to accomplish to get there. For example, if you want to have written 4 books, then you will have to start with the first one. Once you determine which projects to start with, you can break it down more to determine a few of the big things you need to get done within the next year, the next quarter, the next month, the next week etc, and then you will have a better idea of what you need to do tomorrow to get there. You will always have things that come up today that need to be done tomorrow, but at least if you have an eye to the future, you will have a shot at creating the things you need to create to get there. There is a saying that says, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
So, one you have your 10 year plan, you will find yourself more motivated, more excited and more energized by your business and your dreams. If you have one of those 'rough' days, you can pull out your plan and dream a bit to get yourself into a better frame of mind. You can set your sights on that fabulous future and let the joy of it come through you directly to your prospects, customers and employees. With a vision, you will find yourself much more capable of handling challenges and problems, of staying focused, and when you start to feel overwhelmed, you will know what to focus on first – then when you get started, that feeling will fade away. And, your excitement and passion will naturally stay high.
