How to Purchase From Amazon Japan in English

*** Remember you can always use amazon.com as well, and purchase from online buyers who ship internationally. In the event that the price difference is between the US based price and Japan based price, you may want to order with the cheaper of the two depending on shipping costs. If the yen to dollar price isn’t that different, I would recommend ordering the item from a seller in Japan.

We can either simply create an account first or we can attempt to purchase something and then create the account upon checkout. This tutorial will show how to do it when making a purchase.

Step 1: Go to the amazon.co.jp website.

Step 2: Click on the “In English” link on the top right corner. Done! Now you are surfing amazon.co.jp in English.

Step 3: Next find something to purchase and add to your shopping cart.

Step 4: When you’re done shopping, click on the Proceed to Checkout button.

Step 5: The next screen’s text will be all in Japanese, but don’t worry. Click on the “Click here” link at the top that says “Click here to see in English”.

Step 6: Type in your email address and select the “I am a new customer” radio button and click the “Sign in using our secure server” button.

Step 7: Provide your email address and password and go to the next page.

Step 8: Here you will enter the shipping address of your family member in Japan. Make sure to complete everything on this page. For address line 1 and 2 it should be in the following format.

City, Area name, Block, Building name followed by room number.

For example:

Shinjuku-ku, Waseda, 1-10-2, Mori Biru #101

Step 9: Select the type of shipping and where to ship to.

Step 10: Enter your payment information and click continue.

Step 11: Enter your billing address. You probably want to click the link that says “Or enter International (Outside of Japan)” for the billing address.

Step 12: Then review your order and click the “place your order” button. It will usually covert the payment amount to the currency type you are paying in.

Step 13: All done!
