Although it is not the law, you hold the responsibility to keep your viewers safe. And this doesn’t have to be a tedious task. In fact, if you make your blog as safe and secure as possible you won’t have to worry about it ever again. Here are some things that you can put in place for the security of your blog and the safety of your viewers.
Tip #1- Protect Against Spam. As a blogger you will find a lot of spam coming your way and it’s just a natural process. But some of that spam can be harmful to your views. It can either be due to the type of spam that is being posted, or it can be due to harmful links being placed in the spam comments. So to protect your viewers you need to make sure that you moderate your comments before a comment posts to your blog, and you need to make sure you have a system in place that will catch all of your unwanted spam.
Tip #2 – Get Rid of Dummy Accounts. If you offer your viewers the option to register on your blog, you will often notice that some members will create a dummy account with a false name and email address in order to spam your blog and your viewers. In order to protect your blog, make sure you are constantly checking these accounts to validate them and if you find that they are dummy accounts then toss them!
Tips #3 – Use Secure Contact Forms. For the most part, everybody uses contact forms on their blogs but the problem is they are not always secure. This leaves your viewers in a vulnerable state because there is no security that protects their information from being intercepted. So you may want to use a more secure contact form on your blog. You can use plugins for this or you can use email marketing services that can help you with this.
Tip #4 – Create Private Posts. If you are going to post information that is meant for adult eyes only or if you are going to share information that is only fit for someone over 18, then create private or premium posts that only your viewers that fit your criteria can read. This protects the younger viewers that may be stopping by your blog.
Tip #5 – Use safe payment processors. If you begin selling your own products from your blog, make sure that you are providing a secure way for your viewers to purchase your products. Make sure you use a secure payment method that will encrypt all of your viewers payment information to keep their personal information safe. There are many payment processors that are very good when it comes to security such as PayPal, AlertPay, Amazon Payments, ClickBank, etc.
These are just a few ways that you can keep your blog safe for your views, but there are a lot of useful plugins for WordPress blogs that will help you as well. As previously mentioned, you have the responsibility to your viewers to keep them as safe and secure as possible and this should be in the front of your mind during the development stage of your blog.
