Eight Basic Badminton Techniques

If you want to improve your game, you should practice these 8 basic techniques. Even if you just play badminton for fun, you can always learn something new to better your performance.

1. Badminton Grip

The right grip is your basic foundation for badminton. For more power and accuracy, make sure you are holding the racket correctly. There are 2 main types of grips: forehand and backhand.

Use the forehand grip when your shots are in the front of your body, and you hold your hand on the handle as if you where shaking hands. Keep the racket face perpendicular to the floor.

When the shot is behind your body, you should use the backhand racket grip. Hold the handle just like you did for the forehand, but then turn the racket counter-clockwise so your thumb is to the left.

2. Badminton Footwork

Your opponent will try to keep the shuttle away from you, so be prepared to move around the court quickly and accurate with good footwork. You’ll need moves like skipping, shuffling, gliding, lunging and even bouncing. It’s up to you how to use them during your game. Always keep your knees slightly bent and ready to move at all times. Generally stay in the mid-court area so you can reach all corners of the court quickly.

3. Serving

You can even gain points with the right serve. There are 4 basic kinds of badminton serve: high serve, low serve, flick serve, and the drive serve. You can choose the right serve after watching your opponent. Serving to the back of the court with a high serve is a good idea if you are playing against someone who likes to stay close to the net, for example.

4. Clears

The badminton clear is the most common stroke, and it can be played from either forehand or backhand, as well as overhead or underarm. Regardless of exactly how you use the clear, the objective is to send the shuttle to the back of the court, forcing your opponent back away from the net to open up the forecourt.

5. Drop Shots

The drop shot is the opposite of the above mentioned clear shot, as it is intended to drop right behind the net and force your opponent closer into the forecourt. This can open up space in the backcourt for your next play. This move can be played either forehand or backhand, and usually has a lot of wrist movement to it.

6. The Smash

The badminton smash is a powerful move that you should strive to master. It’s a downward shot that comes down steeply into your opponents fore or mid court area. For a faster smash, you can jump and make the shot as you some down. Your opponent will have little time to react, almost guaranteeing you the point. Don’t overuse the smash because it will tire you out. You usually use a forehand grip when doing a smash.

7. The Drive

If the ball is too low for a smash, you can use a drive instead. The drive shot moves horizontally, rather than arching upward. The shuttle would just skim the top of the net, moving either diagonally across the court or straight from your position. You’re trying to get the shuttle behind your opponent, making it difficult for them to return with a good shot.

8. Badminton Net Play

Net play shots are usually done with just a wrist movement, and lack the power of most other techniques. The intent is to gently knock the shuttle over the net, usually when your opponent can’t reach the net in time to counter. Any light shot near the net is hard to return, especially if you get the shuttle tumbling.

3 Symptoms of Asbestos Poisoning

There are three main symptoms of asbestos poisoning that you must be aware of. See if these symptoms describe any of the issues that you are facing and quickly see a doctor if something does not seem right. Any time lost with delays can help put you at greater risk for long term illness and pain. Here are the three top symptoms of asbestos exposure, which may lead to lung cancer, asbestosis, and / or mesothelioma:

  1. Chest Pain. Chest pain is the most obvious of the three main symptoms, but it can also be the cause of a number of other disorders, making it more difficult to diagnose clearly. The chest pains may feel like a 'seizing' of your lungs and a stunted breathing pattern.
  2. Shortness of Breath. This is a big one, and one of the first symptoms to generally appear. This can also be related to a number of other issues (including not being in very good physical shape), but you can tell what your body is doing and if you notice a change for the worse and breathing difficulties that seem out of the ordinary then It is time to contact your doctor without delay.
  3. Finger Deformity. This is one of the most shocking and the most disturbing of the symptoms that can come upon someone that has asbestosis. It may take many months or many years to develop and is not present in all cases. There may be rounded and somewhat flattened on the ends, and can be harder to notice.

Keep all of these things in mind if you feel like you may have been exposed to asbestos and are afraid that you may have asbestos poisoning or lung cancer forming. These are very serious matters and should not be taken lightly. There are a number of other issues that may spring up like a resistance to physical exercise and relentless coughing. Especially if you are seeing any kind of blood in your coughing, you must see a doctor straight away.

If you feel that your issues may have been caused by the safety neglect of a company that you have worked for in the past, make sure to plan on contacting a mesothelioma attorney as well as see if you might be Eligible for some kind of cash settlement. Thousands of lawsuits have been won in similar situations as what you may be involved with (and have been exposed to). You should not delay in seeking treatment for these issues nor in seeking legal representation for a potential settlement.

Help! I Have Chronic Halitosis!

What is chronic halitosis?

The most common cause of chronic halitosis (chronic bad

breath) is an oral condition such as bacterial build up in

the mouth, a cavity, or abscess. Another possible cause is

bacteria that produce volatile sulfur compounds on the

tongue which can occur either because your body produces

too much naturally, or from a high protein diet. Another

common cause of chronic halitosis is dry mouth. All the

conditions mentioned above are breeding grounds for the

bacteria that cause bad breath. But there are cures for

chronic bad breath which we’ll get into later.

To start, since you may be immune to the smell of your

breath, the easiest way to determine if you have chronic

halitosis is to ask someone you trust, like a spouse,

parent or sibling.

Causes of chronic halitosis

If your suspicions of halitosis are confirmed there are

some easy and effective cures for chronic bad breath, but

first you must know what is causing it. Some common causes

include:

o Odorous foods, foods high in protein and even coffee can

cause chronic halitosis.

o Cavities, decay, abscesses and gum disease can also

create bad breath.

o Tobacco use

o Alcohol and alcohol-based mouth washes

o Allergies, sinus problems and the common cold

o Infrequent or incorrect brushing and flossing

o Body over producing bacteria is another cause of chronic

halitosis.

o Certain medications or diseases

o Dry mouth

Cures for Chronic Bad Breath

So, what are some cures for chronic bad breath. The good

news is there are many.

o If you are due, schedule an appointment with your dentist

for a check-up and cleaning. Make him aware of the problem,

so he can check your oral health.

o Brush and floss after every meal.

o Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist. A few

times per day, while drinking water, squish it around your

mouth and in between your teeth to break up any food that

may be hiding.

o Add baking soda to your toothpaste to help kill odors in

your mouth.

o Stay away from alcohol-based mouth washes and sprays.

Instead make a wash using a couple drops of tea tree oil

and water.

o Trade in your breath mints for parley, cloves or thyme.

o Avoid diets high in fat or high in protein

o If you’re a dairy addict, cut back and see if this helps

your chronic halitosis.

Brush that Bad Right Out of Your Breath

Sounds simple, but a very easy way to get rid of chronic

halitosis is to brush and floss directly after every meal.

Now, this does not mean that people who suffer from chronic

halitosis don’t brush their teeth or have poor hygiene; it

simply means you may have to do so more frequently.

Flossing regularly will also help cure chronic bad breath

as it will loosen and eliminate any food lodged between

your teeth.

Can bad breath be treated?

Yes, but first you must identify the cause and then

implement the proper solution. If you’ve tried the cures

for chronic bad breath mentioned and you still suffer from

chronic halitosis, make an appointment with your dentist.

Your dentist will be able to pinpoint the cause of the

chronic halitosis just by the odor it gives off. He’ll know

whether it is dental, bacterial, a throat infection or

other causes.

Dent Repair – The Secrets

Does your new car have a dent in the door? Has hailed damaged the Roof or Boot? If so, dent repair is probably your best option. In the past few years, paintless dent repair has offered an alternative to the traditional dent fix. Paintless dent repair does not damage the paint on your vehicle and it is much cheaper than the usual methods of dent removal.

The secret behind dent repair is that there is not "beating out" of the dents, nor removing parts of your car. This is one of the reasons it's much cheaper than some of the older methods for dent repair. A normal dent repair will cost only a fraction of a traditional repair that is completed within a repair shop.

Paintless dent repair is a very skilled procedure. In order to achieve the best results, the process requires experience, patience, and the right tools. Since there is no painting involved, the job is completed much faster and can be done as a mobile business. This means the dent repair professional can come to the customer.

The process requires the repair specialist to gradually push the metal back to where it's supposed to be. This is done a small section at a time and depending upon the size of the dent, may require a few hours to complete. There are several tools that are needed to complete the job properly.

The tools are long, flat, and very rigid in order to allow the correct amount of pressure to be applied, without the tool bending. These tools are slid into the gap found behind the panel. Pressure is applied to the dent from behind, but it's done slowly to move the metal back into its original shape, a little bit at a time. If done correctly, there should be no damage to the paint on the other side of the panel.

Many companies are providing mobile services for dent repair. The secret to a great dent removal job is to provide the specialist with enough room to work. This will help the repair specialist to provide the amount of pressure needed to correctly push the metal back into place.

You'll now find many paintless dent repair tools are sold to the public. However, without the proper training, you can easily cause a ripple in the metal or the paint to crack or chip. This will require a much more expensive repair bill and even a repair shop may not be able to completely remove the dent. It's best to leave it to the professionals.

Paintless dent removal is recommended as an alternative to the more conventional methods. However, you need to be certain you have a trained, qualified professional to achieve the best results. There are many companies that do not provide enough training to their employees and the results can be rather costly.

For those people that have two or three dents, it's often much easier on the wallet to have them all fixed at once. Understand that not all dents may be removed by paintless dent repair. The location of the dent is the determining factor, as well as if there is a crease in the metal. Paintless dent removal can work on some creases, but it depends on how deep it is, as well as how long it is. Consult with a professional dent removal specialist to find out how they can help you.

Dangers Of Metabolism Boosters And Energy Drinks

The main purpose of metabolism boosting substances is to assist body when exercising. They are there to accelerate calorie burning process. There is a common misperception that metabolism boosters can replace the role of physical activity in losing weight. Fault for this belief lies partly by online diet marketers. Last 5 years are known as “diet spamming” period. Majority of e-mail owners were receiving at least 1 “lose weight – no exercise needed product” mail weekly in their inbox. Though it is true that those products will make body burn more calories even with no exercise, dangers of such doing overshadow by far those hardly measurable weight loss effects.

Untrained body of overweight people is simply not up to the increased heart rate and blood circulation that energy drink or metabolism booster can cause. Heart attack can be the consequence. Each body needs time to adapt on faster blood circulation. Any instant shock caused by metabolism boosting diet product is a health hazard. This is especially important for people who face weight issues and have one or another kind of medical condition related to: high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels or any kind of heart muscle disorder.

Overweight people, who have long neglected physical exercises, should avoid dietary products that promise weight loss with no effort needed. Those products are predominantly based on extracts of different citrus fruits, alcohol and in 90% of cases they will content caffeine. For individuals just starting with their weight loss program, other kinds of dietary supplements should be considered. Here it should be emphasized that there is an important difference between overweight and obese individuals. No obesity case should ever be addressed without proper medical guidance.

One should also never underestimate the power of drinking water. Water is an effective and gentle body stimulant, with no negative side effects. Metabolism boosters and energy drinks should find their place in fitness studios with people who are daily devoted to hard physical exercise.

How to Replace Windows

Window Replacement

If you've checked into getting new windows in your home opportunities are you've thought about doing it yourself after getting quotes higher than you'd expect from window replacement contractors. Odds are that you can save money if you get estimates from more than one contractor, speak to the right window replacement contractor, or do it yourself. If you decide to replace your windows yourself it could reasonably take 6+ hours for each window you replace and that is assuming the window is easily accessible from the exterior of your house. Window replacement is a competitive field so you can probably get a bid lower than your initial one if you shop around for different contractors to replace your windows. Good contractors have years of experience and can generally get the job done in a day depending on the size of the job. They can also include features that you may not have the experience to install yourself. But if you do decide to replace your own windows this is a short guide on how to do just that.

Preparation

The most important step to replacing your own windows is measuring. You need to make sure you get the right size windows to replace your old ones so that the installation can go as smoothly as possible. Measure your windows from inside your home and measure from jamb to jamb up and down. Make sure to measure from the bottom, middle and top when measuring horizontally, and from the right, middle and left when measuring vertically. Hopefully all the measurements will be within 1/4 of an inch of each other. But no matter what be sure to use the smallest measurement vertically and horizontally so that the replacements will fit the window opening you will be making. Do not worry about the gaps now because you will use caulk and insulation later to make sure that your windows seal up. Once you have your measurements you will be able to get purchase your windows. You will also need some other supplies. These include:

  • Caulking Gun and Caulking Tubes
  • A Square
  • Wood Shims
  • Tape Measure
  • Miter Saw
  • Hammer
  • Strong Cordless Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Wood Chisel
  • Utility Knife
  • Small Pry-Bar and Putty Knife
  • Your Replacement Window

The Replacement Process

To begin your replacement you need to remove the stops. Stops are the thin vertical pieces of wood that keep the sashes from falling inward into the house. Be cautious when removing these pieces because you can re-use them later and they can break rather easily. Use your knives and prybar in the removal of these pieces. The next step is removing the sash from the window frame. Take out the parting beads to free the upper sash. If your windows were previously fitted with sash-replacement kits there will not be any beads. You just need to press in on the jamb liners and pull the top of the sash forward. Then twist one side of the sash upward to remove it from the jamb liners. After removing the sash you need to pry off the jamb liners. Depending on the age of your windows you may have some wooden stops remaining that you will have to remove.Next you will be prepping the window frame. You are going to want to scrape off any loose or blistered paint from the frame. Next, patch any small holes or cracks with exterior grade wood putty. Larger gaps can be filled with tufts of fiberglass insulation. Sand the jambs and prime and paint the surfaces of the frame. Do not remove the interior or exterior casings from your frame.

Now you will remove the old sash weights. To do this unscrew the access panel on each side jamb. Next you will insulate behind your window frame. To prep for your insulation you should drill 3/8 inch diameter holes in your sill and head jamb. Make sure to drill one in each end and one near the center. Make sure there is no fiberglass in the sash weight pockets. Polyurethane foam is more effective than fiberglass at blocking air so it is ideal for insulation. Make sure that you use a foam that is low-pressure and expands minimally. Expanding foam will warp your windows and they will have problems opening. Shoot the foam into the holes you drilled until it starts coming out of the holes. You will also spray the foam into the sash weight pockets in the side jambs. The foam needs about 6 hours to harden and then you will break off the extra making sure it is even. When you are finished replace the access panels for the side jambs.

Next you should set your window in the opening to see how it fits and be sure it fits well and evenly. Remove the window and apply caulk to the inside face of the exterior casing, or to the blind stops on the top and sides of the frame. In addition, apply caulk to the windowsill. Now place the window in the frame, placing the bottom in first, then tip the window up and into place. Be sure to press tightly so the caulk will seal the window. Then you will need to secure your window, fastening it loosely at first. Screw the window into place at the top on both sides. Be sure that it is fastened loosely enough that there is no warping and the window can operate. Now you can put in any shims you need to center the window and keep it level. When the window is sitting correctly in the frame fasten screws through the pre-drilled holes, through the shims, and into the jamb. Now you can fill any holes you may have using the foam you used previously.

Now you re-install the sash stops on the inside of your window and you are ready to finish up on the outside. From the outside you need to measure any gaps between the frame of your window and the casing. If a gap is less than 1/4 inch inch can be caulked, but a gap that is wider should be stuffed with foam rubber back rod to close the gap to under 1/4 of an inch before being caulked. When the exterior is sealed your installation is complete. All that is left is priming and painting or staining should you choose to do so.

The replacement of a window can be completed on your own, but do not expect it to be a quick procedure, especially if you do not have construction experience. There is always the possibility of something unexpected occurring and complications are bound to arise. If you have more than one window to deal with you may not have the time or the patience to complete the job. Window replacement contractors have years of experience and can get jobs done in a timely fashion.

Finding The Purpose Of Your Life: Six Ways To Identify Your Dream

Just about everyone who achieves great things in life dreams of success first and gains words of motivation from those dreams. Knowing what you want helps you through the tough times and gives direction when you need it.

Most people however believe dreams are silly and indefinite and refuse to admit they dream at all but the truth is we all dream in some way. The key is to pin down what those dreams are and they then become easier to achieve. There are six rules to consider as you attempt to discover what it is you want.

1. No Restrictions

There is a song in the musical ‘Joseph’ that says ‘Any dream will do,’ and frankly, if the dream is important enough than it will do. Never dismiss a dream as being silly or impossible.

The greatest achievements in history have come about from a dream. The pyramids were somebody’s dream once, as were black rights in America fifty years ago. What was it Martin Luther King said? “I have a dream.”

What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail? If achieving something would make you happy then it is good enough.

2. Do Not Let Anyone Else Set Your Dreams

Be selfish. Let other people identify their own dreams. Understand what it is YOU want. You will achieve nothing attempting to satisfy other people.

If you have a spouse or partner, set your own aims and then discuss with him or her what your shared ideals will be: but you do need your own dreams.

For years I thought I had to expect to lie on some exotic beach somewhere or go for a cruise. I tried to give myself words of motivation to achieve this to no avail. Then suddenly I realised these were not my dreams, they were expected of me. Sorry. I want something else.

If you do want these things however, that is okay. It is your dream after all, not mine.

3. Do Not Consider How You Will Achieve Them

If you specify what it is you want the way to achieve it will become clear to you. You have to have faith in that. Jim Rohn said, “When you know what you want and you want it badly enough, you’ll find a way to get it.”

4. List Your Dreams On Paper

Spend some quiet time on your own, think about what you want from life and write it down. Doing this allows you to clear your mind until the next idea comes to mind. You then have the opportunity to return to the results later for further reflection.

You need to capture your ideas when you can. You will end up with a blueprint of your life so it would be criminal to lose track of the thoughts. When I tried this, the ideas came in a burst so writing them down brought some order to the creative chaos.

In any case, there is something magical about writing aims down. It seems to bring them closer to becoming reality.

Never write a long description either. Being too detailed will stem the flow of ideas; just jot down enough words to remind you later. For example, if you have always wanted that brilliant red Ferrari 458, then just write ‘Ferrari 458’ and you will remember all the details later. Motivational phrases are often short!

5. Dream Big Dreams

Big ambitions will get you excited. Somehow a greater dream has more attraction. Let your imagination go wild. No restrictions.

I cannot imagine that Usain Bolt wanted to be any thing less than the fastest man in the world, for example. Did Lance Armstrong set out to ride down to the shops? Where would we be if Nelson Mandela had decided he could not make a difference to South Africa?

There is a good reason why David J. Schwarz called his classic book ‘The Magic Of Thinking Big.’ He said, “How big we think determines the size of our accomplishments.”

Bear in mind, however, that once you have identified your big goals, you should also set smaller goals as stepping-stones to achieve on the way. The achievement of these will give you continual motivation along the way.

6. Get to Know Your Dreams

Once you have a list of your aims in life, find out all you can about them. Get out and touch them if you can.

Go online and find all the details you can. Doing this will make it all seem that much more real. But you can do more. If you want something tangible, such as a car or a boat or a house, go and look at it. Get the brochures. Go for a test drive. Touch it. Feel it.

It is an interesting fact that most salesmen are delighted when people take an interest in their products. I dream of owning a TVR sports car and have driven a few simply by going into the showroom. I spoke to a salesman at the headquarters of Sunseeker powerboats once and he told me that he had been giving brochures to one man for some time before the same person turned up and bought a boat for cash. Was the salesman happy to let me have a brochure? Of course he was.

By now you should have a clearer view of what you want. Positive dreams have a remarkable power. Identifying them puts you that much closer to achieving them. Somehow they seem real and possible. Apply the six rules to your dreams and you will have all the words of motivation you need to achieve the success you desire.

RV Tire Protection

Very few RV tires actually wear out. Most of them rot out due at least partly to the sun. The sun's UV rays are consistently working away at the tire rubber. This deterioration leads to cracks in the sidewalls and tread areas. When these cracks get bad enough, your tire gives up. The result is at best a flat tire, at worst, a blowout. All of us have seen rigs along side the road with shredded tires.

Too often, the damage is not just the tire, but also damage to the rig. Sometimes, the end result is loss of control and a crash. It is important to actually inspect your tires for proper inflation and condition each trip out. If you have any doubts, go to your trusted tire supplier for an inspection. The life you save might be mine.

You can not stop tire deterioration, but you can sure slow it down. Just like you protect your skin from the sun, you can protect your tires from the sun. One of the best methods is to keep your tires out of the sun. How? Cover your tires. There are vinyl tire covers that wrap around the tire. There are flat tire covers that attach to the side of your rig and drape over the tires. The wrap around are less expensive, but more difficult to install. The flat allow air to circulate, match the rig better, easier to install especially without getting your sleeves dirty, but cost more. Plywood can be leaned up against them, but it does look tacky. Some chemical compounds can be applied like sun tan lotion. Not all work equally. In fact, some tire companies speak out against them. There are some that probably do more damage than good.

Actual use of your rig promotes tire longevity. The flexing of the tire through use actually releases some of the internal rubber compounds. These components help protect the tire. There is nothing like another reason to use your RV. If your RV is going to be parked for an extended period of time, then use a vapor barrier between the concrete or asphalt and your tire.

A major cause of tire failure is under inflation. Follow the instructions and inflate your tires to the proper pressure for your RV weight. Check the pressure when the tires are cold. Buy a decent tire pressure gauge from your local auto parts store. They are cheap when compared to the price of a tire. If you are not sure of the right pressure, your local tire store can help you. A tire failure leaves you stranded by the side of the road. A blow out usually damages your RV. Avoid the problem as much as possible.

Your tires are an important part of your rig. Once you have done what you can, then get out there and enjoy your travels. There are lots to see and many places to visit. Do it!

The Paradigm Awakening

As the sun rises just to the right of my office window, I hear the song of birds in the distance. They sing a song of perfection; Free of worry or sorrow. Their song reminds me of a forest glad where life is free of worry and concern.

Where are you with your inner paradigm this Spring? Many people feel stuck in the winter and sad because of the constant darkness. Their "Paradigm" or thought process may be ignore and dark, leading them on though journeys that feel bad, make them sad or cover them with physical illness.

Spring is always a good time to explore the depths of your mind, down into the subconscious, to pull out weeds from your garden of hope and serenity. When our garden is filled with weeds and icky creatures it is hard to see light or anything positive. We are going to take a journey now into your subconscious mind and awakened the sleeping strengths, beliefs and resources that are buried in the catacombs.

It is early on Spring morning and you take a walk down the road. You notice to your left an opening to what appears to be a cave. You have just come out of the worse winter your town has ever seen and felt depressed because your job is getting slower and money is getting invisible. Depression has consumed you all winter and there have been times when you did not think you could go on.

Let's stop now and take a look at how this story will or may unfold. Winter is dark and cold causing people to stay indoors more. The lack of sunshine and air causes all sorts of bad feelings and emotions. Spring is such a divine contrast that it can make the depression and anxiety worse or it can make it better.

Every emotional association you have in your lifetime is connected to a thought process that is buried in the catacombs of your subconscious. Slower work means less money and this invokes the great fear of lack, loss and scarcity. When these fears are present they multiply. Let's explore further.

Curious as to what is inside of the cave, you take a step inside and immediately notice the darkness and wet chill are similar to the winter you just came out of. The chill on your skin begins to make you want to run back to the entrance and head home, but you are determined to go further. You step deeper into the cave and hear what looks like a baby crying in the darkness. This was the strangest sound. To the left there is a dim light and this light seems to be near the area where you hear a baby crying.

As if to look through thick fog you see a scene in the background. You begin to remember a time when you were a child when your father, who worked in a coal mine, was screaming at your mother because he had not been able to make enough money during the winter. As a little baby you were watching this unfold.

What you just experienced in the catacombs of your subconscious mind was a scene from your past that created your current paradigm or thought process. Without even knowing it, you picked up on the same fears as your parents. The good news is that you can change that by become aware and awake to this reality.

Take some time today to create your life as you would want it to be. Spring into the awakening of a new and bright future. Until next time, I am Carla Wynn.
